Critical Power 1 Travels 1046.94 km in 24 Hours
Seems like we're just beginning to realise our human potential. On 20 July, fortysomething Greg Kolodziejzyk travelled 1046.94 km (650.538 miles) in 24 hours, in his bullet-shaped human powered vehicle (HPV), Critical Power beating the previous mark of 1021.36 km (634.644 miles) set in 1995.
Last month, the human powered hour record fell when 50-year-old Fred Markham broke the 85,4 km mark at the 2006 Dempsey-MacCready One Hour Record Attempts on the Nissan track in Arizona.
Ergonomic design of these recumbent bikes is a major factor where speed is concerned, but it will be interesting to see what happens when some young legs get behind the wheels for these HPV records.
