Salt Spring Island one of the larger Gulf Islands off the West Coast - but still a small community compared to Vancouver - had an inaugural Critical Mass ride followed by a screening of You Never Bike Alone.

The event was part of a transportation options fair on June 16. "There were 70 bikes and another 50 or so people in wheelchairs, walking, tricycles and other modes of conveyance," estimates Organizer Marion Pape.

"We had a great screening and an amazing first critical mass rally here on Salt Spring last weekend. Bikes came out of the woodwork from all over the island - people we had not seen before. A ride took place from Fulford to Gagnes, which is a bit tough going over Lees Hill, and then everyone came together at the top of the hill, coming into Ganges and came in en masse on busy market day."
